Controversial windows blocked

A number of windows which were the subject of a warning notice from the Planning Department of Kildare County Council are in the process of being blocked up.

The windows faced out onto the petrol delivery area of the XL Filling Station and were not on the plans for the development which had been given permission.

They were the subject of complaints from the filling station and from Kilcullen Community Action on health and safety grounds. The County Kildare Fire authorities had also been notified of the matter on foot of a letter from Esso Ireland fuel distributors.

A technical report commissioned by Kilcullen Community Action says that the development has nine points of deviation from the planning permission given.

A further application is currently lodged relating to the premises, for a change of use of one of the retail units to provide a betting office for Ladbrokes.
