Punchestown values

Research carried out by NUI Maynooth shows that the Punchestown Racing Festival is worth about €43 million to the local economy.

Spending at the racecourse during the four day event is estimated to be €7.6 million, with a further €17.8 million spent on accommodation, food and entertainment and €7.5 million on travel and subsistence.

The researchers also estimate that the local economy benefits indirectly to the tune of €10 million.

Does anyone remember the simple days, when we travelled out on our bikes and bought crisps and chocolate and bottles of Club Orange, and enjoyed ourselves around the amusements on the 'outside' across from the massive stands complex that is there now?

Memories, please, would be welcome to the Diary.

Brian Byrne.
