Amazing set for 'Christmas Carol'

Work is almost complete on the construction of the set for the production of 'A Christmas Carol' which is being undertaken by Kilcullen Drama Group.

The basic set is a very realistic brick room which represents the Dickensian workplace where Bob Cratchit clerked for the miser Ebenezer Scrooge, but clever shifting of walls and doors allow it to quickly be a kitchen, a bedroom, and other places.

"It took 22 people to build this set," producer Mischa Fekete told the Diary during a conversation which also recalled how previous sophisticated sets for Drama Group productions were often constructed by the late Pat Dunlea with just two or three helpers.

The group also had to bring back the very useful trapdoor in the moddle of the stage, which had inadvertantly been covered in a recent raising of the stage.

'A Christmas Carol' is one of the most ambitious projects ever undertaken by the group, and opens for a limited run on November 24.
