April Bridge on sale
The April edition of The Bridge is now on sale and features an article from locally-born Gary Byrne, currently teaching English in China.
In his piece he describes the street life in the area around the school in Weifang, an industrial and commercial city in the Shandong province.
There are 2,400 pupils in the school, which has been specially developed so that all the students learn English in addition to their normal subjects.
Other articles in the Bridge this month include the regular contributions from Sean Landers in Taiwan — again on the subject of food this month — and a thoughtful article on Kilcullen past and present from former resident Joe Kelly.
A more disturbing piece from Brian Dunne of Castlemartin asks some questions about building site safety, and the highlight article from Kilcullen Tidy Towns asks residents to watch out for, and report, people seen dumping litter in and around the town.
The usual sports roundup includes an appeal for sponsorship of Curragh-based Claire Flood, whose dream of international badminton success is being hampered by lack of funding.
A page of pictures of medal winners in the recent Kilcullen Community Games Swimming Competition shows that our young children seem that have no fear of water ... a very good thing.
