Path repair, extension mooted
The possibility of getting a grant from KELT to help repair and extend a footpath to New Abbey graveyard is to be investigated following the meeting of Kilcullen Community Action this week.
The trigger to the idea was a flyer about a rural social grant scheme being operated by KELT, aimed at village enhancement projects. Celia Travers suggested the idea of improving the footpath, as many people walking to the two graveyards have to walk on the road. "Especially those with buggies," she noted.
Esther Kiely said that if the path is allowed to deteriorate, it 'will disappear'. "It is really not possible to walk on parts of it at the moment," she added.
Noel Clare said the real need is for a path with kerbing and a proper surface. "Maybe the council could come in on it with KELT?" he suggested. "They have worked together on projects before."
He also reminded the meeting that KELT is already helping the community through its grant aid of 50 percent of the cost of the sculpture and landscaping at the Old Carlow Road junction.
Celia Travers is to investigate the possibilities on behalf of KCA.
