Badminton update

Division 2 Ladies Debbie Mangan, Sinead Kelly, Lynsey Walshe and Gillian K Smith.
Our Dublin District League, Division 7 Men captained by Oisin Egan were the first team to play this week when they made the long trip to Meath team Boyne on Monday 12 December, writes Enda O'Neill, PRO of the Kilcullen Badminton Club.

For the long journey Oisin called in sub Ross Cole. Thankfully the drive did not tire the lads out to much and they managed to secure a 2-2 draw. Oisin and his team now have two points to add to the four points that they picked up in their first match which they won against Raheny, the KBC lads now sit top of their table after two matches. The next team they face are Tolka Rovers, again away in Griffith Avenue which will be played on Monday 19 Dec, Good luck to Oisin, Kasi Va, Fintan Phelan and Ben Phelan in their next outing.

Wednesday 14 December saw Debbie Mangan and the Division 3 Mix again take the long journey up to Boyne. This Division 3 Mix team lost their first match to a competitive Eire Friends team in their first match but bounced back in the second with an impressive away win at St Brigids. The KBC squad now wanted to build on that win and did so taking a well earned draw away from the hosts. Again a good result for the team on an unforgiving venue against a spirited yet sociable Boyne side. That makes it one defeat, one win and one draw for Debbie's team. Well done to captain Debbie, Sinead Kelly, Murt Dunne and David Jackson and good luck in your next match againist Kilmessian.

Thursday night KBC hosted two teams with Sinead Kellys’ Division 2 Ladies meeting Carlow YM in the highly anticipated fixture and Martin Dunnes’ Division 2 Men playing Pembroke. The Ladies sought to improve on their previous draw in the Dublin League and did so in style with an impressive 4-0 victory. Well done Sinead, Lynsey Walsh, Debbie Mangan and Gillian K. Smith. The ladies face Ailsbury in their next league match in January. Martin Dunne had to recruit sub Vincent Coller for this one as regular Mick Cass had a bad dose of the “Man Flu!”. Martin and his men didn’t fair out as well in his game against Pembroke. The KBC squad were unfortunate not to get a draw in this fast paced match.Last years Dublin District League Champs went down 3-1 but still have it all to play for. Hard luck to Martin, David Jackson, Eoin Bourke and Vincent. Mick Cass get well soon, I heard Lem-sip Cold and Flu is the best to rid you of a runny nose!.

Finally Owen Wallace and his Grade 3 Mix started their South West league crusade off to a great start when they visited Johnswell on Wednesday 14 December. His team won the match 6-2. Well done Owen and his crew Chelsey Cox, Bernie Smith, Tara O’Neill, Siobhan Willis, John Mullen, Ray Dalton and super sub Vincent Coller.
