COMMUNITY
Kilcullen Community Action Founded more than a decade ago to provide a focus for community and amenity development in the town. Its bedrock is the Tidy Towns effort, but KCA also supported and encouraged many of the recreational, social and environmental improvements which have taken place in the past decade.

KilcullenTown A group working towards building a Kilcullen 'portal' on the net to bring together the various strands of the community in an online way, using Twitter and Facebook as well as traditional websites.

CULTURE & HERITAGE
Dun Ailline A prehistoric gathering place related to Tara and similar. Excavations and surveys show it to have been a significant place in its time. A modern sculpture in Kilcullen itself commemorates Dun Ailinne.

Kilcullen Heritage Centre Built on the site of an original community hall built in the 1930s, the Centre has a wide-ranging collection of memorabilia and photographs which document many aspects of Kilcullen's history and families. It is part of the complex which includes the Town Hall Theatre.

New Abbey Graveyard A historic and beautifully maintained graveyard around the site of a former Abbey and what was at one time the church of Kilcullen Parish. The link here is to a project carried out in the oldest part of the graveyard by the Transition Year students of Cross & Passion College with Col Des Travers (Retd) and historicgraves.ie

Round Tower & Graveyard, Old Kilcullen The tower dates back to the 10th century and was built to provide refuge on the monastic settlement from Viking attacks. Damaged in the 1798 Rebellion, it is now only about half its original size. The original Kilcullen, into which seven roads are said to have led.

St Brigid's Well Built on the site of a spring in the Valley Park which traditionally was thought to be a holy well, it is a quiet oasis alcove which features a limestone sculpture by the late Fr Henry Flanagan OP.

The Spout Originally a short distance away, the cast-iron Spout is again connected to the spring from which it used to provide the water needs of much of the population of Kilcullen Bridge and the travellers who passed through it. It was lost when the Valley Park was built, and some years ago was found and restored in its present position by Jim Collins.

The Curragh Military Museum This museum in what is known locally as The Curragh Camp, now ’The Defence Forces Training Centre', details the history of the military base originally established by the British in the mid-1800s and handed over to the Irish State in 1922. Admission is free, and the Museum is open on Sundays through Thursdays. Phone +353 45 5342 for details.
