Parking problems raised
Ongoing parking difficulties in Kilcullen were raised at the recent meeting of Kilcullen Community Action, and local gardai are to be asked to enforce existing restrictions.
In particular, the problems caused by parking on the Chapel Road near Snells Bookmakers was highlighted.
"It is a huge problem," Esther Kiely noted, adding that when the Church Car Park was closed recently for surface repairs it had been a 'nightmare'.
There was some discussion on the need for double yellow lines along the road, but it was pointed out that they would be of no value unless there is enforcement.
Ray Kelly said he had a great deal of correspondence relating to the similar problems at the Hillcrest shops, including the recent realignment of the road which was 'designed to slow down traffic'.
No double yellow lines have been put down at the realignment, and motorists still park there while going into the shops, creating very dangerous situations.
"The previous yellow lines weren't observed anyhow," he recalled, and reported that on a number of occasions recently he had asked people 'would they mind' moving their cars from the dangerous positions.
"They just said no," he said.
Esther Kiely and Siobhan Tutty Bardon are to talk with Sergeant Relihan to see what might be done to improve the situation.
