Mac and Norman's drive party

Well, it was the street party of the year in County Kildare when the Mac and Norman Vintage Drive returned to Mile Mill yesterday afternoon, much made by the glorious weather.

There's no word yet about the amount raised this year for the Irish Cancer Society, but the collections and the auction conducted by John Osbourne in the car park of the Stray Inn will certainly add to the substantial amount already in the kitty from the pre-drive sponsorship cards and the entry fees.

Items sold ran the gamut from a promise of a day's use of a mini-digger with operator through tools of all kinds to bicycles and much more besides.

Music through the afternoon was provided by Phil and Una, along with Devil's Brew, and a guest appearance was made by Fergal Sloane, who told the Diary recently that he was contemplating a career change. We didn't realise it was to become a drag queen!

Trojan work by Ger Markey and his staff kept the thirsts quenched inside and outside the Stray. And over the next week, the Diary will try and feed out as many pictures as possible from the event.

And don't forget, there's still room in some of the collection buckets. Phone Norman Egar at 086 2580074 or Ann Sully at 045 483700 if you can help top them off.
