Mac and Norm's cancer drive under way

The 2005 annual cancer research fundraiser run by Mac Scully and Norman Egar got under way this afternoon in bright sunshine and decent summer heat that got many on the way out to watch the cavalcade of vintage agricultural machinery and motor vehicles.

Leaving Canniscourt at lunchtime, the convoy of cars, motorbikes, and at least 120 tractors of all sizes and ages wound its way by Brannockstown to Carnalway and then through Kilcullen to make its customary stop at Eugene Brennan's pub in Old Kilcullen.

That's where the Diary has left them at this point, but we will be covering the final part of the day at the Stray Inn in Mile Mill, where an auction of promises begins at 5.30pm.

And we have taken so many pictures of participants and onlookers that it will be a month before we get them all fed through the Kilcullen Diary system ... so check back regularly.

After last year's event, the organisers presented a cheque for €30,000 to the Irish Cancer Society.
