The passing of Owen Sherry

The Diary has learned of the death of Owen Sherry, Riverside Green, Kilcullen, retired Flight Sergeant Air Corps-Irish Defence Forces, on 18 January 2025 in the excellent care of the staff of Naas hospital.

Beloved son of the late Pat and Ann, brother to the late Liam, Noel, and Patsy, Owen is lovingly remembered by his sisters-in-law Mary, Breda and Mary, nieces, nephews, extended family and his many friends.

Owen was a winch-man on Air Corps helicopters, a highly-skilled and critical position during rescue operations at sea and in mountain areas. Over his service years he was key part of teams which saved many lives under very dangerous conditions.

His funeral will arrive at the Church of the Sacred Heart and St Brigid, Kilcullen on Thursday 23 January for 11am mass which may be viewed on this link. Burial afterwards in New Abbey Cemetery.
