The passing of Michael Kelleher
The Diary has learned of the death of Michael Kelleher (Micheal S O' Ceilleachair) in Johannesburg, South Africa, in his 68th year.
Michael's first post was as a teacher in Kilcullen many years ago, before he moved to Ballysax NS, from where he retired as Principal. His efforts there led to having the new school built at Cut Bush. He also worked for a time in Saudi Arabia.
While in Kilcullen he was much involved in folk music, and he was also a member of the Nas na Riogh Singers.
He is survived by his wife Antia, whom he married while living in Cape Town, and his brothers John (Arklow) and Pat (Wexford). He will be missed very much by them, and by his friends in Ireland with whom he was regularly in touch.
A memorial service will be held in Johannesburg on 20 February, and it is anticipated there will be a streaming link which we will publish when it is available. May he rest in peace.
