WEATHER

A mix of cloud and sunny spells with scattered showers, some may be heavy. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees with moderate to fresh and gusty southwesterly winds, easing by evening.

DID YOU KNOW?

Wood frogs, native to Alaska and Canada, undergo a process of freezing as a survival mechanism during severe winter conditions. Elevated levels of glucose in their tissues prevent the formation of damaging ice crystals that could cause cellular rupture. The hearts, brains, and other vital organs enter a state of stasis through the deliberate reduction of metabolic activity, with as much as 70 per cent of their body water freezing externally, outside of their cells.
