Free hazardous household waste disposal today
Today's the day for anyone with household hazardous waste to dispose of it free, writes Brian Byrne.
The materials which will be accepted free of charge at the Silliot Hill Civic Amenity Centre are adhesives, aerosols, antifreeze, batteries, herbicides, household detergents, medicinal waste, mixed fuels, oil, oil filters, paints and varnishes, and pesticides.
Normally there is a charge for these items, so only household hazardous waste (and waste electrical items — these are always free to recycle) will be free on the day. All other waste will incur a charge.
This initiative is funded by the Eastern Midlands Regional Waste Office and the Dept. of Communications, Climate Action and Environment.
Silliot Hill is open 8am to 3.45pm, with last vehicles in by 3.30pm.
