The passing of Liam O'Flynn
It is with sadness that we note the passing of Liam O'Flynn, piper extraordinaire and gentleman to his talented fingertips.
The Kill-born musician was a frequent visitor to Kilcullen through the years, and just short of a decade ago he was commissioned by Kilcullen Community Action to compose a piece to mark the dedication of the Dun Ailinne Interpretive Park.
'Dun Ailinne and the Clann March' was sponsored by Dr Tony O'Reilly of Castlemartin House, and debuted by Liam in a really extraordinary evening in Kilcullen Town Hall in 2008 during the dedication celebrations of the sculpture.
The duration of the piece being played was one of those times that makes the spine tingle in sheer enjoyment.
May he rest in peace and play in eternum with the spirits of music from all of time.
