Community Clean-up is planned
Plans are progressing for the Community Clean-up 2018 which will take place on the weekend of 7 April, writes Brian Byrne.
The recent meeting of Kilcullen Community Action/Tidy Towns agreed to coordinate the event with the annual Lily White Clean-up on the same weekend, organised by Kildare County Council as part of the National Spring Clean.
A document is to be circulated to businesses, clubs and social and residents groups to encourage them to take part in the Cleanup, ideally gathering a cleaning crew in their own areas.
While the weekend is the target date for the effort, Ray Kelly said a focus should be maintained on the month of April as a whole, as there is a lot of work that needs to be done.
An ongoing litter issue on parts of the Community Centre campus was raised in the discussion. Eoin Houlihan suggested that all the clubs and organisations on the campus could get together to tackle it.
The matter of where to put the rubbish collected during the Cleanup was also mentioned. Ray Kelly said he would discuss pickup points around the town with Kildare County Council.
He noted how the Council cooperated in Naas with that town's Tidy Towns organisation, picking up bags of rubbish left by volunteers which are labelled with the Tidy Towns name and logo.
"I think that's something we could do here," he said, adding that he would look into it.
