Shabby Chic J&A to close
A flagship shop in Kilcullen is to close in two weeks' time because of a big rent increase demand, writes Brian Byrne.
Shabby Chic J&A was opened by Antoinette Buckley and Jennifer Monaghan (above) in November 2014 on Hillcrest at a time when most of the retail premises there were closed, and brought an enhanced consumer footfall to the area.
Their business based on upcycling furniture and related workshops did its bit to upcycle what had become a virtual 'ghost' retail part of Kilcullen. Other businesses followed, including Secret Kloset, the Drama Dynamics studio and a photography enterprise.
"Due to the landlord asking three-and-a-half times increase in rent and new terms we are unable to continue to trade," Antoinette says, thanking everybody who has supported herself and Jennifer over the past three years.
All stocks of Autentico paint and the accessories sold in the operation have been reduced to clear.
The shop will be open from 10am-5pm through Friday and Saturday.
