Christmas Market 'will return next year'

The Kilcullen Christmas Market, which was inaugurated yesterday in the market square, will be repeated next year, writes Brian Byrne.

That's the commitment from one of the organising committee, Antoinette Buckley, following what she described as a 'fantastic fun day with all the local businesses and local people'.

"We were delighted with the day, and it seems that local people loved it too," she said this morning. "The square was buzzing all day, and stall-holders got right into the festive cheer with the people who came along. It was just amazing to see the support from the people of Kilcullen."

On behalf of herself and fellow committee members Lorna Brophy and Katrina O'Connell she expressed her thanks to all involved — the stall-holders who were all local businesses, and the volunteers who helped put the whole thing together. "A special thanks to Eoin Houlihan of KCA for all his help throughout the day, and to Noel Clare and Gareth Landy for the photographs. Thanks also to Mary Orford and Tim Ditchburn for organising the Santa Letter Workshop and story-telling."

Antoinette particularly mentioned the contribution of the entertainment provided through the day, by the Camphill Bell Ringers, DJ Gloria, and the Kilcullen Gospel Choir which performed in the run up to the switching on of the Christmas lights.
