That was (some of) the week ...
On Sunday last we wrote about Evie Sammon, the new Fine Gael Local Area Representative in this area, who has Kilcullen Links. We have no doubt she'll be knocking on our doors during the next local elections, but you're likely to be seeing a lot of her before that.
On Monday we reported on a weekend reunion of Newbridge College guys from the Class of 1962, which included your editor and fellow Kilcullenite Seamus Orford. The occasion was to mark the 90th birthday of Fr John Heffernan, who coached many generations of young rugby players in the College.
On Tuesday we went environmental with a piece on the difficulties of dealing with invasive plant and animal species. We also reported on the news that Jimmy Aspell has recorded a CD single to raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society.
The main news on Wednesday was of the decision of PJ Lydon to retire from the Kilcullen Community Centre, where he has been manager for decades.
On Thursday we gave prominence to the presentation to the local winners of the Credit Union Schools Poster Competition. We also highlighted the upcoming public meeting organised by the Kilcullen Co Housing Group, which will be next Thursday.
On Friday we revealed the Kilcullen connection to an award-winning new invention to monitor how much nutrition a breast-feeding baby is getting. We also noted the imminent launch of a history of Ballymore Eustace GAA Club, which will be of interest locally as Kilcullen has lots of links with Ballymore.
And on Saturday, which turned out to be a very busy day for news, we detailed another upcoming book launch, this time on drama and musicals in Newbridge College. Among the other stories was one about Conor Mullen and Ethan McGlinchey, students at St Kevins Community College in Dunlavin, who have been helping to keep Kilcullen tidy as part of their Gaisce President's Awards programme.
