Down Memory Lane again
From the family scrapbook, here's a very early picture of the Hideout Filling Station, probably around 1959 or 1960, writes Brian Byrne.
I don't know who the pair are in the picture, though the boy out front is possibly my brother Gary or my late brother Des — the photo is fuzzy because it is copied from a tiny 6cm wide one.
I can date it because the car at the back is my Dad's Vauxhall Wyvern, which he changed in 1961 for a Ford Consul.
The pumps are mismatched because they were bought refurbished. And, of course, the car park was only half the size it is today, and did not have a tarmac surface.
