Nominations open for Kilcullen Community Awards 2017

The annual Tidy Towns and Community Awards night date for this year is Thursday 2 November 2017, writes Brian Byrne.

Organised by Kilcullen Community Action, nominations are now open for the Awards, which are focused on people or groups in the Kilcullen community area whose voluntary work has significantly enhanced the lives of those in the sectors Environmental and Local Community; Children and Youth; Sport; People with disabilities; Older people; Education; or other areas. This year KCA is introducing a Contribution of a Business to Community Life award.

The awards committee will look at how the nominees have gone beyond their expected role and how their work improves Kilcullen.

Nominations, with the reason for the nomination, should be sent to kilcullencommunityaction@gmail.com; or by post to Ray Kelly, 1060 Nicholastown, Kilcullen.

The event will be held in the Town Hall, starting at 8pm.

A number of perpetual trophies are presented on the night among the local Tidy Towns awards, for which the local judges have been doing walk-throughs in the last couple of weeks. The usual categories include Best Large Estate, Best Small Estate, Best Green Area, Best Landscape, Best Business Premises, Most Improved Business Premises, Best Commercial Premises, Best Window Display, Best Community/Public Facilities, and Best Apartments.

Also, the winter Street Collection for KCA project funds will be held on 18 November.
