Hazel's latest is published today

Today is a big day for our local author Hazel Gaynor, with the publication of her latest novel in the US, writes Brian Byrne.

The Cottingley Secret turns the clock back one hundred years to a time when two young girls from Cottingley, Yorkshire, convinced the world that they had done the impossible and photographed fairies in their garden.

Now, in her newest novel, Hazel re-imagines their true story. During her researches for the book, she came across a connection between the Cottingley cousins and a person in Ireland, and she has used the same device as in her first novel about the Titanic by linking the original story with a character living today. Olivia Kavanagh finds a manuscript in a bookshop, and an old photograph that links her to the fairies story.

Hazel's first novel, The Girl Who Came Home, was also her first New York Times bestseller, and her most recent one, The Girl From The Savoy, was shortlisted for the Irish Book Awards 2016 Book of the Year.

The Cottingley Secret will be published in the UK and Ireland next month. The Kilcullen launch is planned for Woodbine Books.
