'Very successful concert' for Tennis Club ... in 1926
With the Kilcullen Tennis Club reopening for business this coming weekend, it’s interesting to note that it was very much a going concern back in 1926, writes Brian Byrne.
In this clipping from the 2 January issue of the ‘Kildare Observer’ we read that there was ‘a very successful concert’ held in the Schoolhouse, in aid of the Club.
(The Schoolhouse was likely the Old Boys School, now part of the Hideout, and which had recently been replaced by the new Boys School, now the Library.)
The report in the ‘Observer’ notes that the Concert, which had ‘varied and interesting’ contributions from local talented people, was followed by a farce entitled ‘Tactics’, presented by the Two Mile House Amateur Dramatic Society.
“Judging by the enormous crowd that filled the Schoolhouse, the funds of the Club should be considerably augmented,” the reporter said.
