DID YOU KNOW?

The British Royal household has a person called a swan marker, a position going back to the 12th century when the British monarch had a right to claim any swans found swimming in open waters, unmarked. An annual census of the swans, known as swan upping, is led by the swan marker on a stretch of the River Thames. It takes five days, using a fleet of traditional rowing skiffs. Swans were once considered a delicacy by the Royals, but today the census is all about conservation and education.

Great night at Tidy Towns Quiz

There was a great turn out at the Table Quiz in support of Kilcullen in Bloom on Friday night last in Fallons, writes Noel Clare. The winning team after a very close contest consisted of Peter O'Sullivan, Peter Bardon, Siobhan Tutty Bardon and Evelyn O'Sullivan.
