Information sought on church grounds incident
Gardai are still seeking information on two youths in connection with a wallet apparently taken from a parishioner on New Year’s Eve as he was getting out of his car before the 6.30pm mass in Kilcullen Parish Church, writes Brian Byrne.
The man concerned requires the assistance of sticks to walk, and he was distracted by two youths, described as ‘fairly young’ and ‘wearing suits’, on the pretext of offering to help him. They spoke with him for a considerable period of time at his car door, during which the younger of the pair entered the back of the car and also the front passenger area.
"They struck up the conversation by asking me what time mass was," the parishioner told the Diary. "They said they were only living in Kilcullen a month, that they were originally 'from Kilkenny way' and that they were going to school in Newbridge."
Any information relating to the case would be appreciated by the Garda at Kilcullen (045 481212) or Naas (045 897333).
UPDATE: The owner subsequently found his car keys, which had been thought to have been taken, but at the time of writing, his wallet is still missing.
