Memory Lane: Boys National School 1923

Another photograph to be added to the Kilcullen Gathering Heritage Collection is this from Kate McKay in Seattle, Washington State, USA, writes Brian Byrne.

It's of the pupils in the Boys National School, taken in January 1923, with teachers Miss Griffin and Paddy Byrne.

The School then would still have been located in the lane at the back of what's now The Hideout, what was then Flanagan's Motor Bar. In 1925 it was relocated to the new building that is today the Kilcullen Community Library.

The picture is in the form of a post card, and Kate found it while going through papers left by her mother, Kathleen Nolan of Logstown.

Kate doesn't think any of her relatives are in the picture because her mother's brothers were raised in England, and her dad and his brothers grew up in Carlow.

She'd be very interested, though, if some names from the photograph could be remembered.
