Fantastic Friday for KBC
A fantastic four results for Kilcullen Badminton Club in the latter part of last week with KBC taking four from four in their expeditions, writes Enda O'Neill.
First off were Vincent Coller and the Grade 3 B Men who visited Kildare in an away fixture that was always going to be tough. Vincent and his team knew that any victory would secure a semi final spot for them. The KBC men didn’t disappoint and as Vincent said himself they had “a very fine win”. In this close match with every game bar one going to three sets Kilcullen came out with a 4-2 win putting them top of the table and into a semi final. Well done Vincent, John Mullen, Enda O’Neill and Oisin Egan.
In the first of our three home fixtures which were played on Friday 21 October Jen Monaghan and the Grade 4 Ladies entertained Ballinabranna. The girls got off to a flying start with Pam Kelly and Sarah Walshe taking the first game. Jen and Kathrin Logan took the second game and the girls didn’t look back. In the match they only dropped two games and took the match 4-2. This win puts the ladies back on track to make the semi finals. Well don Jen, Kathrin, Pam and Sarah.
Mari Gallagher and the Grade 5 Ladies also hosted their Ballinabranna counterparts and wanted to improve on their last home game. Mari and her team have taken one win from two but got back on track with a fantastic 5-1 win. The KBC outfit now sit top of the table with three games left to play in the group. Good luck to Mari, Grace Elliot, Orla Brophy and Emer Flynn in their next encounter.
Finally Kasi Vallinayagam and his Grade 5 Men who have dominated their grade hosted a tricky Grade 5 men from Kildare. The KBC lads left nothing on the court in this match and beat a very good Kildare team 4-2. The lads are really cruising at this level and have only dropped five sets in their four matches. Well done to Kasi, Ben Phelan, Ross Cole and Oisin Egan.
Finally a quick mention to Kilcullen's Lynsey Walsh and Gillian K Smith who made it to the Ladies BI Octoberfest Final on Sunday 23 October. The girls were unfortunately beaten by Vicki Pessi (Old Bawn) and Kari Nelson (South Dublin) in an exciting final. This is a fantastic achievement as this is only one division below Premier in the Badminton Leagues. Good luck to all our nine teams who play next week in the leagues.
