Sizzling summer for KBC
As we enter the wetter and darker evenings it is safe to say that Kilcullen Badminton Club had one of its best summers on record, writes Club PRO Enda O'Neill.
The club saw some new and old faces averaging between 25-35 players per night, which is always great to see. The success of the summer club is down to a few factors, the members, new members and visitors coming to play badminton on our Tuesday and Thursday nights and the brilliant organisation by the Summer Club committee.
Thanks to Jen Monaghan, John Mullen, Oisin Egan and Stephen Kennedy, who were in charge of opening and closing the hall and organising the games all summer, guys take a bow.
Thursday 1 September saw the official opening of the season and we have a busy few weeks ahead of us with team selection now under way. Secretary Vincent Coller and Match Secretary Martine Dunne will also have the arduous job of arranging League and Cup matches. Of course we cant forget that they are also selectors along with Jen Monaghan, John Mullen and Enda O’Neill.
KBC also has the honour of hosting this year's Shuttlefest for the second year in a row. The Shuttlefest is the first major graded tournament for the South West League and will be held this Saturday 10 September and Sunday 11 September, starting at 10am each morning. There's an open invite to all interested to come and watch (or play!) some great badminton. Kilcullen Badminton Club will have a tuck shop open where you will be able to grab a cup of tea, coffee or a nice sandwich. Members of the club will also be doing some home bakes to sell, and I can assure you that you won't taste a nicer pavlova than one made by Alan Fitizgerald!
So why not come along support our local badminton club and have a look?. You never know, you might be bitten by the Badminton Bug and want to give it a try.
