Road safety and the new school year
With schools open again, both parents and pupils are being reminded of the Safe Cross Code by Kildare's Road Safety Officer, writes Brian Byrne.
Parents, guardians and students themselves all have a responsibility for their safety while getting to school, according to Declan Keogh.
Children should be visible, and parents dropping and collecting their children at school should aware of their surroundings in terms of where other children are and whether they are crossing the road.
Make sure your new young school child (and even the more experienced ones) follow the instructions of the school warden, and use dedicated school crossing areas where marked.
