Weather gods smiled on Family Cycle
Well, after the original date being cancelled due to atrocious weather, today’s GAA Family Fun Cycle went off with the weather gods beaming down benignly, writes Brian Byrne.
And very much a family event it was too, with hordes of children and their parents from all over the community showing that our youngsters actually don’t spend all their time peering at screens. And that they’re pretty fit on the two wheels, maybe even putting the pressure on their elders?
The buzz of good humour around The Mill bar in Mile Mill before and after the event felt really summery, and it was a perfect opportunity for many to clear the cobwebs from the ‘secondary concert’ after the Kilcullen Gospel Choir and friend bravura performance last evening.
John Kennedy was as usual on hand to make sure that the various circuits — 5k, 10k, and 20k for the really enthusiastic — were kept safe for the participants. And a cohort of stewards at various intersections helped with that.
Afterwards, sun, music, burgers, lemonade and some stronger libations for those so inclined kept things hammering along nicely.
And the Diary … well, it’s Kilcullen, we were just kept very busy as usual. All the pictures are here.
