The disappointing side of sunny weather
Beautiful weather brings out the smiles in us, but sometimes it doesn't bring out the best, writes Brian Byrne.
This is a picture taken today by a correspondent, of Berney's Inch on the north bank of the Liffey, with the detritus left by some people who took advantage of the heatwave to play and picnic al fresco.
As noted by our correspondent, they left behind a variety of food and drink rubbish, several towels, socks, and even a pair of shorts. "It's a wonderful free amenity on our doorstep," he told the Diary, "messed up by a few. I was just disappointed that I didn't have a bag with me to pick it all up ... next time, I will."
But he shouldn't have to, should he?
