Help wanted with bats survey
If you’re interested in learning a bit about bats, and would like to help with a survey about a particular species of bat, there’s an information evening on Thursday in Athy Heritage Centre, writes Brian Byrne.
The event is organised by Bat Conservation Ireland, in conjunction with Kildare County Council and the Kildare Bat Group.
It’s all about the All Ireland Daubenton’s Bat Waterways Survey and will involve a couple of hours of presentation and discussion followed by a visit to a local waterway to demonstrate survey methodology.
Things kick off at 8.30pm and all are welcome.
We have lots of bats in Kilcullen, and an evening here in 2012 was a fascinating introduction to them. They’re extremely important, keeping the levels of insects in the environment in balance.
