A happy swan family picture this morning as they forage down the river for breakfast, but it’s a very sad one too, writes Brian Byrne.
From the original hatch of six cygnets, only one remains alive, the others victims of predators on the Liffey in our town.
Might have been a fox, maybe an otter or a mink, that last known to hunt along the Kilcullen area of the river, and the reason why we have so little waterfowl here on a waterway that should be rich in diversity.
Let’s just hope the remaining young swan makes it to maturity.
