Kilcullen Badminton Club held their awards night on Friday 27 May, and what a great night it turned out to be. The club decided to host the event in the MP Mess in the Curragh as a change of scenery and as it is a central location to all travelling members (and I promise the cheaper beverages had nothing to do with it!).
So who got our awards, I hear you ask? There were five awards on offer this year — KBC's Female Club Person of the Year went to Kathrin Logan, the Male Club Person went to John Mullen. Player of the Year went to one of our longest and loyal serving members, Mari Gallagher (pictured above), KBC's Chairperson Award went to Kilcullen's Enda O’Neill (yours truly!). Ray's All Ireland runners up, Grade 4 Mix team who represented the Dublin District League in the Inter League All Ireland, won the Team of the Year.
The club would like to thank Alan Murphy (the mess barman) and Pabo Reade, Mess Manager, for their hospitality and great service on our club night out. Jimmy Kennedy who provided the great food also deserves a mention. Of course, we can’t forget our local trophy maker Joe O’Connor who again this year supplied the beautiful awards — Joe, thanks for all your hard work and of course if you need any engraving just contact the man himself on 087 2174350. Congratulations to all the club winners.
KBC had more reason to celebrate when it was announced on Sunday night last that they had been crowned the South West League's Club of the Year. This trophy is awarded to the club in the league that promotes badminton, encourages beginners and new people to play the sport. KBC also supported the SWLB by entering as many competitions as possible apart from the leagues and cups. As you know KBC hosted this year’s shuttle fest last September which was a great success. KBC also have members that help the SWBL by umpiring and helping out in neutral venues. This is a great achievement for the club and our members and committee are proud that their hard work and effort paid off.
KBC’s Summer Club is now in full swing and it's only €75 to play all summer — this means for the 29 nights of play during the summer months you are only paying €2.50 per night when broken down. If you wish, you can also alternatively pay €5 a night. This is fantastic value and we would really love to see some new players of all grades come in and try us out.
If there is anyone out there that would like to come and play, our Summer Club nights are Tuesday and Thursday nights in the Community Centre (Complex) from 9pm until late!!
