Martin in Naas MS 'mockrimony' for charity
Naas Musical Society is sticking with its wedding theme this year as it teams up with St Anne’s Special School and The Curragh Lourdes Fund to raise much needed funds, writes Lorraine Higgins.
Their Mock Wedding, Much ‘I do’ About Nothing, takes place on Friday 27 May at 8pm in a specially constructed marquee in the back car park of The Town House Hotel. They are hoping to attract 400 ‘guests’ to attend and witness the Mockrimony between Politician Bertie and Daddy’s Girl Precious.
The night will include all the trimmings of a real wedding, with a wedding mockrimony, followed by a meal complete with speeches from the ‘bridal party’ and plenty of laughs along the way, and then dance the night away to the band Fame and DJ John Lawlor!
The cast is made up of people from across the county! The Groom is none other than Kildare TD Martin Heydon, the Bride is Ireland’s AIMS recipient of Best Female Singer, Dearbhail Downey (above). Other cast members include Principal of Ballysax School Esther Reddy, Zita McGarry Kelly from Prosperous Drama Group, our priest is Michael F Malone from Newbridge Panto Group and Newbridge Musical Society, Local Men Denis Kenny and Henry Marsh are also part of the mad crew as well as Roisin Fay, Caoimhe Dowling, Majella Lesson.
And of course no wedding would be complete without a Fronc … and boy have we a Fronc! Andrew Reddy, Costume Designer, has agreed to ensure our bridal party are all ship shape!
The script has been written especially for the occasion by Tina O’Kelly with some help from local playwright Joe O’Neill. With a witty script, a dazzling marquee, a great cast and entertainment, the ‘guests’ will all receive a custom, handmade wedding favour too.
Tickets are on sale from Berneys Chemists in Kilcullen, the Town House Hotel or can be booked through Lorraine on 087 9079194 and are a steal at €35 or five for €150. If people fancy a work night out for a great cause we can organise to book tables together. We hope the whole county will get behind this wonderful night to raise much needed funds for these deserving causes.
