Reminder: Another 1798 'Gathering' for Old Kilcullen
Just a reminder that another ‘gathering’ on Old Kilcullen around the anniversary of the 1798 rebellion is being organised by Sabina Reddy, writes Brian Byrne.
It will be held this coming Sunday 22 May, and Sabina says the focus this year will be on Knockaulin and its relationship to Old Kilcullen.
This is apt theme, as the first archaeological ‘dig’ on Knockaulin since the 1970s will begin there a few weeks later.
Speakers lined up for the event, which will begin at 3pm, include John Martin, Gerry O’Donoghue, and Noel Clare.
“I feel that there are plenty of people living in Kilcullen do not know about Old Kilcullen and Knockaulin,” says Sabina, who is passionate about the area and considers herself to be so lucky to have grown up in it and live there.
Details of the last such gathering there can be accessed here.
