Mark Geary and Grainne Hunt in the BAG
On Monday, we welcome back the wonderful, the charismatic Mark Geary, writes Roy Thompson of the Ballymore Acoustic Gigs.
As usual, he will be joined by the delightful Grainne Hunt on backing vocals, and general merriment! Opening the show will be Saoirse Casey, daughter of well known Irish singer/songwriter, Paddy Casey, and a super young talent in her own right.
Each time Mark Geary plays BAG, more and more people become enthralled with him, and his songs, for very good reason. He connects with his audience better than most — entertainment and integrity, a winning combination. Grainne Hunt, a serious solo talent, her vocal contributions to Mark Geary's performances are a thing of beauty.
Dublin-native Mark Geary began his career more than 20 years ago. In 1992, he bought a one-way ticket to New York City and spent several years honing his craft playing the local circuit in the East Village, which included numerous appearances at the acclaimed Sin-é cafe with other upcoming artists including friend Jeff Buckley.
During that time, Mark’s songwriting skills and engaging live performances garnered him a dedicated audience, the respect and esteem of his peers and a reputation as one of the finest song-smiths of his generation. His records have been hailed as encapsulating both boisterous joy and gentle, delicate moments that endear themselves to the listener and evoke comparisons to artists such as Van Morrison, John Lennon, Elliot Smith and Richard Thompson.
His body of work includes four studio albums, two live recordings and collaborations with a number of artists.
Mick Murphy's Bar, Ballymore Eustace, Co. Kildare. Doors 8:30pm. Show 9pm. Admission €12.
Support from Saoirse Casey.
