Kilcullen Badminton roundup

A busy night for the club on Tuesday 08 December with no fewer than four teams competing in both Dublin District League and Dublin District Cup.

The first home match we cover was Jen's Division 6 Mix who played their DDC second round against PSLC of Portmarnock in the first of their two matches this week. Jen and the team were desperate to keep their unbeaten record intact and didn't get off to a good start with John unluckily beaten in two very close sets in the men's singles, Tara however got the team back on track when she won the ladies singles fairly comfortably leaving it one game all going into the doubles disciplines.

A fired up John and Enda were out next and beat the PSLC men in two sets coming back from 19-15 down to clinch the game. It was now up to captain Jen and Tara to finish the job and they did so in style winning 21-11 and 21-14 to win the match 3-1.

Jen's second venture was another home match this time to Sheriff Street. Jen had to use two subs in this match which can lesson the odds of getting a win but not when you have subs like John Healy and Oisin Egan who slotted in very nicely. The lads set the tone of this match winning their men's game two sets to one. Jen and Tara also took the ladies putting KBC 2-0 up. John and Tara then took first mix, but Jen and Oisin lost their mix in a deciding set losing the tie break 22-20. Kilcullen got a well deserved 3-1 victory, this cementing their top spot on the league table. Well done to Jen, Tara, John, Enda, subs John H and Oisin and good luck in the Quarter Finals against league rivals Knocklyon.

Also at home and playing on Court 2 were the Division 4 Mix captained by Chelsey where they hosted Rathfarnham. In the DDL Chelsey and her team are also undefeated taking one win and two draws from their first three matches, again in another “smashing” performance the KBC four beat Rathfarnham 3-1. This win puts the KBC team top of their table at this early stage of the league so well done to Chelsey, Bernie, Vincent and Martin on a great start to their league.

Annette's Division 2 Ladies travelled to KADCA in their DDL match and were hoping to get something out of this away fixture. Annette's team have also had a great start to the league with two league wins out of two matches after beating Ailsbury in their home and away fixtures. Annette and the team found KADAC tougher outfit altogether especially on their home turf. The girls still managed to get a well deserved 2-2 draw keeping their one hundred percent record intact. Good result and well played Annette, Lorraine, Gillian and Lynsey.

Finally Murt and the Division 2 Men also travelled this time further a field to Boyne of Meath. The lads haven’t had the greatest of starts by their standards and before this fixture had won one and lost one in their first two opening matches of the Dublin District League. The guys however did get the train back on the track with a great 3-1 win against their hosts, Boyne. Well done Murt, David J, Declan and sub for the night Gareth.
