Choirs combined for Carol Service

There was an appreciative congregation last evening in the Parish Church for the Carol Service presented by a number of local choirs and musicians, writes Brian Byrne.

The event opened with a rendition of a number of seasonal tunes from the Camphill Bell Ringers directed by Gese Mücke (and those who missed this excellent performance can hear them on Christmas Eve, 10am in An Tearman).

Carols and a number of classical pieces were performed throughout the Service by the combined choirs of Kilcullen and Gormanstown, joined by the Milltown Singers from Dunlavin and directed by Dorly O'Sullivan.

Some of the special items included Philomena Breslin as the soloist with 'O Holy Night', while Gese Mücke on flute and Peter Moloney on the organ joined with the choirs for 'O Little One Sweet' by Bach and Kaufmann.

Nine Lessons were included in the Service, and the Advent Candle was lit by a pupil from Scoil Bhride. Organ accompaniment was by Nora Breslin, while the Artistic Director of the evening, Peter Moloney, performed a number of organ solo pieces. The Master of Ceremonies was Gerry O'Donoghue.

Donations were accepted for the John White organ restoration fund.
