Big turnout for switch-on

Despite the weather worries, more than 200 people turned out to celebrate the switching on of the new Christmas Lights last night, writes Brian Byrne.

And though the Diary wasn't able to cover the event directly — hence no pictures here — we understand that the elements were such that those who attended were able to see things happen from the centre of proceedings in Market Square.

Your editor is looking forward to seeing the results of the tremendous effort for himself. But from all accounts, full marks to all concerned, including the KCA members and other volunteers, the individuals and businesses who contributed to the fundraising, and the local authority for grant aid.

Sounds like things are in place for many bright Christmases to come in town.
