Kilcullen Badminton update
On Friday October 29 KBC played in two home matches and starting their Dublin District League campaign were Mari and her Division 8 Ladies. Mari and the girls hosted Kildare CWMS on court 3 and started the league with an impressive 4-0 win over their Kildare counterparts. Well done to Mari, Pam, Emer and Orla and good luck in your next match against St Raphael's in the first round of the cup.
On court 2 in the South West League and hosting Kinnity were Siobhan's Grade 4b ladies who have also had a strong start to the league. Siobhan and the girls were playing a Kinnity team who are in the hunt for a semi final place. Siobhan's girls were on track to make a semi final place so this was really a must win game. The ragettes won in style trashing their Kinnity challengers 4-0 in a one sided affair, with this win they have also practically made certain a semi final spot as they now sit top of their table. With Sarah's Grade 4a ladies sitting on top of their table at the other end of the draw, the club are still on track for an all Kilcullen Grade 4 SWL Ladies Final. Great result and well done to Siobhan, Chelsey, Tara and Kat.
Sarah's Ladies 3 Division 6 team commenced their Dublin District League on Monday 2 November and started their league campaign with a fantastic 4-0 victory away to Rolestown. Sarah did however assure me that this was an extremely hard match that could have swung either way. Well done Sarah, Kat, Tara and Siobhan.
Vincent and his Mens 2 Division 4 team also started their DDL campaign with an away match to An Caslean Nua. Unfortunately it wasn't the start that he had hoped for and the guys were beaten 3-1 by a good An Caislean Nua team, hard luck to Vincent, Owen, Martin and sub John.
Captain David J travelled to Portarlinton to play the Port B team in a South West League Clash. Again the lads were a little unlucky and were beaten 4-0. Hard luck David, Murt, Eoin and Gareth.
Kilcullen Badminton Club were also well represented in last weekend's Yonex All Ireland Championship and we are proud to announce that Kilcullen Badminton Club now have another All Ireland Champion and two runners up medals.
Kilcullen's Siobhan Willis along with her partner Fiona Carthy from Boyne won the Ladies Grade 4 Championships beating the Kilcullen pairing of Chelsey Cox and Tara O’Neill in a great match. In the first set Siobhan and Fiona beat the KBC pair 21-14, but Chelsey and Tara returned the favour in the second set winning 21-14. The third and deciding set went Siobhan and Fiona's way and they took the match and the title beating Chelsey and Tara 21-17 in a nail biting game. Well done to all four players (but especially the ragettes Siobhan, Chelsey and Tara!!). Photograph courtesy of Badminton Ireland.
Finally we have a milestone birthday on Friday night, so Happy Birthday to our Club Chairperson Sinead, Happy 21st (plus Vat!) Sinead!!!
