Christmas Lights street collection today
The collection locations will be Eurospar, Nolans, and Centra Hillside.
Speaking at the Community Awards last night, Ray Kelly of KCA said the support from business and private individuals to the project had been 'exceptional' this year.
"In KCA we have tried to keep the lights up for Christmas for the last 15 years or so," he said. "This year, because we hadn't spent much on the infrastructure during the last few years, we decided to handle it in a different way. After a meeting we set up a Christmas Lights Committee, and we have been canvassing business, and looking for alternative funding."
He said Kildare County Council had come up with a grant of €5,000, while businesses had already contributed up to €3,000 this year. "We also have a few bob for it in the KCA coffers, and we're hoping the street collection will help us get to the €10,000-€11,000 we expect to need."
