Badminton update

The start of the Autumn season also hearlds the beginning of the new badminton year and over the last week KBC played in five South West League matches.

First out were newly crowned team captain Dave Jackson and his Grade 2 mens team who played away to Country Club on Tuesday 29 September. The KBC outfit earned a good draw to a very competitive away team. There was no rest for Dave and his team after their first away match and on Friday 2 October they played at home to Portarlinton. Dave and the lads got off to a great start winning the first mens and followed up winning the three remaining games to take the match 4-0. Well done to Dave, Murt, Eoin and Gareth.

Sinead's Grade 2 Ladies also started their SWL campaign at home to Rathmore on Friday 2 October and also came away with a great 4-0 win against the visiting side. Well done on a great start to Sinead, Lynsey, Gilian and Catherine.

Our final home match played on Friday 2 October saw Kasi and his Grade 5 Men play Kinnity of Carlow. The lads earned a good home draw against the Grade 5 favourites and is a good start to a newly formed Kilcullen outfit. A great result and performance from the lads.

Our final match this week was played in Carlow YM on Tuesday 6 October with Sarah and the Grade 4 Ladies. An impressive start for the Kilcullen girls with a solid 4-0 victory. Sarah and her team played out of their skins as the result shows, again this is a new team with some of the old guard partnering with some new players who joined this season after playing in our summer club. Well done Sarah, Siobhan, Tara and Kat on a great debut.

Finally a big congrats to Sinead, Caroline, Sarah and Murt who in conjunction with the South West League committee oraganised the Shuttle fest competition which was held in the Community Center Kilcullen late last month. This is a major pre-season competition held yearly and is the last event before the season starts with teams from all over Leinster travelling to partake in it. Also thanks to the lads who gave up their time to put the competition mats down a major task! John, Murt, Dave your efforts will be rewarded in heaven!!
