The 'Big Fellow' in Naas
A night recalling the legacy of Michael Collins takes place on Friday next 16 October 2015, at 8pm in the Osprey Hotel, Newbridge Road, Naas, Co Kildare.
The night will feature presentations from two former Ministers for Justice, Michael McDowell, and Nora Owen (a grand-niece of Collins), Mary Kenny, journalist and commentator, and Liam Kenny, history columnist, Leinster Leader, who will highlight some of Collins's County Kildare connections.
The star of the show may well be the armoured car Slieve na mBan, the Rolls-Royce armoured car which accompanied Collins on his last journey at Beal na mBlath, near Clonakilty, Co Cork in August 1922. Personnel will be on hand to demonstrate the brilliant restoration of this rare vintage vehicle.
Chairman for the evening is Martin Condon. A door Cover Charge of €10 includes a commemorative programme. Remaining funds from the night go to maintain the Flowers on the grave of Michael Collins in Glasnevin Cemetery, (Flowers are changed every Saturday morning by the Dublin Branch members of the Collins 22 Society).
