Good attendance at dementia care workshop

A dementia care workshop held in in Fallons Bar & Restaurant recently hosted 25 family caregivers.

The event was organised by Home Instead Family Care Kildare, based in Kilcullen, to mark World Alzheimer Month, and those attending learned practical caregiving techniques such as suggested approaches when helping with personal care activities, understanding cognitive and behavioural symptoms of dementia, and discovering ways to care for themselves so that they can remain a successful family caregiver.

Home Instead Senior Care's Amanda Bohan said that many of their clients are living with dementia so it was important to us that the company support family carers in providing dementia care at home.

“Family carers often struggle to understand the full impact of dementia and it’s easy to become overwhelmed," she says. "The workshops provide information and advice for caregivers as well as providing an opportunity to meet other carers and realise they are not in this struggle alone."
