'No capacity' to design safe walkway

A request for plans to be drawn up for a safe walkway from Cnoc na Greine to Scoil Bhrid via the Kilcullen Community Centre Complex has been turned down by Kildare County Council, writes Brian Byrne.

The request was made by Cllr Rob Power, but at this week's meeting of the Naas Municipal District, he was told that there is currently 'no available capacity' to undertake the work.

The councillor had wanted the design work done in time to have the project considered in the upcoming budget deliberations of the Council.

A survey carried out among the some 635 pupils attending Scoil Bhrid indicates that around a third of them go to school from the Cnoc na Greine/Castlemartin direction.

Of the total, about 220 of them are dropped to school by car, and 340 walk or 'park and stride'.
