Kilcullen help for Trinidad family
During 19 days in June, Petra Conroy's son Jason and twelve other young Irish lads lived in Trinidad, working to build a house and new facilities for a disadvantaged family, writes Brian Byrne.
Jason was sponsored by a number of people in Kilcullen, and and also received some funding from the parish.
The project involved knocking down much of the local family's shanty home, which had no proper drainage, renovating the rest of it, building a new bathroom, and constructing a brand new kitchen separate from the living area.
A septic tank was also built, allowing proper sanitation to the family for the first time. A new bedroom with bunk beds was built for the children in the family.
The boys were helped on one of the days by students from the local Presentation College
"It is something that we will never forget," Jason says. "On behalf of the family as well as myself, I'd like to thank all the donors who made this project possible."
