Pushing Irish Water into the Council toilets

There's something of a contradiction on the list of motions down for consideration at the next meeting of Kildare County Council, writes Brian Byrne.

On the one hand, Cllr Willie Crowley wants the Council to request Irish Water to take over the current contract with JC Decaux for the provision of public toilets in all Kildare municipal districts.

However, further down the list, Cllr Thomas Redmond wants the Council to ask the Minister to withdraw his support for Irish Water, 'as Irish Water is deemed unfit for purpose by this council'.

So, 'fit' enough to provide toilets, but not fit enough to provide water (and water bills)?

Oh, I do miss having the time to cover Council meetings ... they used to be so much fun!
