Badminton update

We start this week with our Division 3 Ladies 1 team captained by Sinead, writes Enda O'Neill, PRO of Kilcullen Badminton Club. The girls played their Dublin District league match away to top of the table PSLC on Friday 27 February.

This was not to be the girls night and in a hard game the ladies were on the receiving end of a 3-1 defeat. This is only their first defeat in the league and they are currently in second place with six points to spare on third place Eire Friends. Hard luck to Sinead, Rachel, Lynsey and Norrie.

Kilcullen's Division 3 Mens 1 hosted the first game of the month on Tuesday 3 March, and if there was a game of the month competition this one would win it hands down. After two and a half hours on court and 23 shuttles later (ISPCA save the geese!) Murt and his team secured a 2-2 draw with KADKA. Murt and Dave J took the first game in two sets, Dave Mc and Darren lost their game in three sets. The third mens of Murt and Dave Mc then won the third in another 2 set game while Darren and Dave J lost theirs in a close three setter. Murt and the team still hold the top spot with KADKA in close pursuit in second place. Well done to the lads on an entertaining and nail biting match that kept the rest of the club enthralled on the night.

Thursday March 5 Sinead's Division 3 Mix 2 hosted An Caislain Nua, this turned out to be a one sided affair with KBC trashing An Caislain 5-1. Well done to Sinead, Rachel, Dave J and Murt on a great victory.

There were two matches played on Friday 6 March, the first was held at home where Olivier's Division 8 Mens 4 team hosted Tolka Badminton Club. Olivier had to use two of his subs for this match and even with home venue to their advantage were beaten 4-0. In fairness the lads were unlucky not to take a point out of the fixture with the deciding set of the fourth game going to the wire. The lads are now lying in third place and one point behind Baldoyle. Hard luck to Olivier, Ben and subs Ronan and Colin.

Our final match report covers Sarah's Division 6, Mix 5 team who played away to PSLC on Friday 6 March. Sarah's team have currently won four out of four matches to date and hoped to keep their 100 per cent record. In a tough venue it wasn’t looking good for the KBC outfit who were 4-1 down going into their final three mix games. The team pulled it out of the bag however with Helen and John winning and Sarah and Enda winning their games in two sets and finally Tara and Fintan winning their game in three sets. Well done to the team snatching a 4-4 draw. KBC top the table and have progressed in to the Quarter Finals but PSLC’s performance now means it will go down to the wire as to who will get the second spot.

Finally good luck to all the teams who are playing over the next week.
