Badminton update

A very busy few days in the club and we start with our progress in the Dublin and District League and Cups, writes Enda O'Neill, PRO of Kilcullen Badminton Club.

Tuesday 06 January saw Carolines Division 3 Mix DDL team were away to Dunboyne. The Mix 3 team got off to a shakey start and were 3-1 down going into the fifth game. It didn’t look like KBC would take anything from the match, but the last two pairing of Annette and Niall and Caroline and Martin dug deep, winning the last two games and taking a well deserved draw. Well done to Caroline, Annette, Niall and Martin.

Thursday 08 Jan the Division 6 Mix captained by Sarah played in a tough Dublin District Cup Quarter Final at home to Lucan. It was honours even after the singles games, but after loosing the Men’s 1 and Ladies 1 doubles Sarah and the team had an up hill struggle to win the match. After losing Mens 2 in a close 2 setter, Sarah and Tara managed to win their Ladies game giving the KBC team a glimmer of hope. Alas it was not to be and Lucan won the mixed 1 game and thus taking the match 5-2, well done to the Lucan but hard luck to Sarah and the team.

Friday 09 January saw Olivier and his Division 9 team and Kathrin and her Division 10 team both play at home in their respective DDC Quarter Finals and both teams had mixed fortune. Katerine, Margarett, Ben and Dave were on the receiving end of a 3-0 beating to a very experienced Clontarf side, hard luck to Kat and the gang.

Olivier on the other hand had a fantastic win against Dundrum where this cup tie went down to the wire with Kilcullen winning the match on sets. Massive well done goes to Olivier, Nicole, Meave and Kasi.

KBC had some great success in the Eire Friends Open this weekend. Bernie Smyth and her partner Paula Scully won the Division 3 Ladies Finals, KBC’s Nicole and her partner for the day Satessh also won in the Division 6-8 Mix Doubles. Sarah Walshe and Tara O’Neill crowned a great Open for the Club winning the Division 4-5 Ladies Doubles competition.

Well done again to Sarah who also won the Grade 5 Dublin Ladies Singles and Mixed Championship last week, Sarah is on a winning role!!.

Good luck to Kathrin Logan and Ben Phelan who will compete in the Division 9 Louth open next weekend and to Lynsey Walsh and Dave Mc Clean in their South West Championship Finals.
